History about this famous French jewelry artist specialized in enamel jewels.
Born in 1924, Jacques Gautier imposed an original style based on an exemplary mastery in working with enamel and a pictorial sense of colour and shape. He studied and retrieved the ancient technique of melted Murano glass, processed while hot as for the enamel, and which he shaped onto silver plates.
He collaborated with various fashion houses from 1948 to 1958 (Jacques Fath, Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne, Christian Dior, Nina Ricci,…). He was named by the couturier in avenue Montaigne, « the Picasso of jewellery ».
In 1958, he opened his gallery and created extremely fruitful personal works with his fusible glass, whether opaque or transparent.
