Celine, originally founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana in Paris, started as a made-to-measure children’s shoe business before evolving into a luxury fashion brand. By the 1960s, the brand shifted focus to women’s accessories and luxury sportswear, with a classic yet understated French elegance.

In 1996, the brand was acquired by LVMH, and Celine became known for its sleek, minimalist aesthetic. The brand’s pivotal transformation came in 2008 when Phoebe Philo became the creative director. Philo introduced a refined, timeless style marked by clean lines, neutral tones, and high-quality materials that resonated with women seeking sophistication without overt branding. Her designs brought Céline significant critical and commercial success, cultivating a loyal following of women drawn to her “quiet luxury” approach.

Since 2018, with Hedi Slimane as the creative director, Celine has shifted to a more youthful, rock-influenced aesthetic. Slimane’s vision includes rebranding (dropping the accent in “Celine”) and adding elements of 1970s-inspired bohemian chic, which brought fresh energy to the brand. His collections mix edgy, youthful elements with luxury craftsmanship, appealing to a younger demographic while also preserving the essence of Parisian style.
