Great & collectable Isabel Canovas “Dice” Handbag of the 80s.

Isabel Canovas was born in Paris on the “Night of Kings” in 1945.  Isabel Canovas is the sister of fabric designer Manuel Canovas. She began work at an early age as accessories designer at Hermes and later to Louis Vuitton. After a few years, she joined Christian Dior as head designer for a span of almost 10 years. At the age of 37, she opened her own boutique with her husband at the fashionable Avenue Montaigne in Paris. She later opened a shop in 1985 on Madison Avenue NY and then in 1988 in Madrid. One of her apprentices was Dominique Aurientis, a famous couture jewellery designer in her own right.

Canovas’ clientele knew that she never discounted or loaned pieces to anyone, no matter who the celebrity was. This marketing strategy helped her customers know that the accessories would NEVER devalue with time. Her editions for each season were in small amount, so are very rare. Her design career ended with the closure of her store closing in 1992. She is best known for her circus and Africian designs.
